Press Release
Shares for a quid
The Walsall Supporters' Trust will be signing up members for a pound on Saturday before the club's home game against Millwall. The Trust has 73 shares in the football club, but wants to increase its membership base in order to appeal to a wider number of supporters. Treasurer David Roe believes that "collectively holding shares in the club for a pound is a great opportunity for all supporters and a chance for the Trust to widen its appeal".
This is an especially opportune moment to become a member of the Trust, with Walsall FC Ltd's AGM on the 15 October. As a shareholding organisation the Trust is able to ask questions at AGM and fully intends to make use of that power. Phil Sturgess, an elected Trustee, has noted that the Trust "has to use its shareholding to further the involvement of the supporters in the running of the club. This means improving the supporters' access to information about the direction of Walsall FC". The Trust aims to improve the communication between the Directors and the fans and asking questions at the AGM is a key to achieving this.
However, the Trust wants the issues it raises to genuinely reflect the concerns of its members and the fans. With the club's accounts and annual report out this week and the owner of Walsall FC Ltd, Mr Bonser, praising the "passion and commitment of supporters", the fans have a useful opportunity to concentrate the club's minds on their concerns in a positive manner. Anyone wishing to raise specific issues that they would like the Trust to address at the AGM should contact a Trustee on Saturday, or write to:

We hope that the reduced membership fee will encourage more people to join, and give the Trust more momentum as it seeks to generate a proactive role for the community in the running of the club.
