Trust urges fans to get to Bramall Lane

With only two games left to the end of the season the Walsall Supporters' Trust is urging fans to get to Bramall Lane for one of the biggest matches in the club's history. Trust Vice-Chair Steve Shaw drew parallels with the classic game of May 1981 when Alan Buckley's team beat Sheffield United 1-0 to escape relegation. He added that 'we need to move beyond our tag as a yo-yo club. Colin Lee clearly has an on-field style designed to keep us in Division One, but off the field the fans have a huge role to play.'

The Trust Board believes that in the event of a restructuring or reform of the League, in the fall-out from the ITV Digital affair, the value of community-based clubs will become more apparent. Trustee Adam Winnall noted that 'the football club needed to reassess its strategy for on-field activities and bringing in Colin Lee and Dave Merrington had been a part of that plan. We must all pull together in the fight for survival to give the club the chance to establish itself at this level.'

Saturday's game is a wonderful opportunity for Walsall FC to work towards securing their status in Division 1. This is important for the well-being of the local community and for the long-term health of the club. The Trust urges as many supporters of Walsall FC as possible to back the team and to back the club at Bramall Lane.

Note to editors:

The WST is a membership organisation of dedicated Walsall FC supporters and has over 530 paid-up members. This means that its members form 10 per cent of our average home crowd. These people are also shareholders in the football club with 73 shares.
