Shareholding Grows
The Walsall Supporters'
Trust has almost doubled its shareholding in Walsall Football Club Ltd. for its
230 members. The Trust has purchased a further 60 shares, bringing its total to
133. This establishes it as one of the largest shareholders in the Club with
more shares than two of the current Directors. In particular, this success is
due to the efforts of Trustee Ray Rowley who negotiated the transfer and sale.
The main objective of the
Trust is "to strengthen the bonds between Walsall Football Club and the
local community in Walsall [the community which it serves] and to represent the
interests of the community in the running of Walsall Football Club". David
Roe, Treasurer of the Trust, stated that he saw the on-going purchase of shares
as crucial in achieving this objective: "we hope that the purchase of a
significant shareholding can be used to build positive links with the club
Board." The Trust Chair, Richard Hall, added that “the Trust will use
these shares to improve both the supporters' access to information about
Walsall FC, and the communication between the Directors and the fans."
The Trust will continue to
contact shareholders and would welcome the chance to talk to others would be
willing to sell, or delegate the proxy of, all or some of their own shares. The
acquisition of a substantial block of shares will give the Trust, and therefore
the community, more influence with the football club's Directors.
