Minutes of the Walsall Supporters’ Trust Board, 11/08/01

McDonald's, Retail Park, Walsall, 2.00pm.

Present: Richard Hall, Ray Rowley, Phil Sturgess, Adam Winnall, Jeff Winnall.

Apologies: David Roe, Steve Shaw.

  1. Minutes of previous meeting and matters arising
  2. Taken as read.

  3. Membership.
  4. RH noted that now the Trust had 73 shares confirmed, that should be used as the base for gaining more members and greater credibility. PS believed that leafleting should target a game in September, after early season enthusiasm had worn off. There was general agreement. AW believed that membership costs should be reduced to £2.50, or even £1. There was a general consensus on this and RH noted that whilst in the first instance the Trust needed money to cover its initial costs, this could now be reduced.

Action: RH to organise date/logistics of leafleting and membership.

  5. Broadening involvement.
  6. RH said that whilst PS and RR were spending a lot of time chasing shares, the bulk of the administration and organisation was being done by RH and Dave Roe. There was a need to alter this so that the workload was spread. A new Secretary is needed to replace Bob Bates and RH asked PS and RR to consider the role of acting secretary until the AGM could appoint a new one. RH stated that he would send out a letter to members asking for more involvement. JW stated that he had spoken to Bob Barnard re: involvement in the Trust in terms of talking to the press.

Action: RH to follow up with PS and RR. JW to negotiate with Bob Barnard.

  7. Share acquisition.
  8. PS and RR were thanked for their work. PS had located a number of other shares and was negotiating with the relevant shareholders. He asked that a formal letter should be prepared.

Action: RH and PS to prepare and send out letter.

  9. Membership renewals.
  10. The first batch are due at the end of September.

Action: DR and Chris Miller will organise.

  11. Date of next meeting.
  12. TBA.
